It is interesting to note that the most widely celebrated Jewish Holyday is Passover. More Jews gather at a Pesach Seder than in Shul on Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. It is important to make sure that your seder experience is relevant to the different types of Jews at your table. As the Hagadah explains, Jews of every sort gather for a religious ceremony to traditionally commemorate our Exodus from Egypt. However we all know that most of us gather to get together with other Jews and share familial traditions we remember from our Seder as a child. Today in the multicultural environment in which we all live it is imperative to inject life into our seders and provide our guests and especially our children with inspiration and passion for the love of Judaism we all share.
Years ago, when I hosted my first seder, I examined the hagadot that were available and found none that suited my needs. I wanted a hagadah that was traditional but egalitarian, timeless but relevant, reverent but with a sense of humor. I wanted those gathered at my table to grapple with timeless questions of freedom, of our purpose on Earth and our very existence as Jews. Needless to say, I couldn't find any one hagadah that met all my needs. The only solution was to borrow the best of others and compile my own. Every year I add and adapt my hagadah a little to reflect upon contemporary issues.
A seder is about memory. It's about remembering the Exodus from Egypt and at the same time creating new seder memories for ourselves and for our
children. I hope that your Seder will be a magical evening of learning and laughter, an evening filled with fond memories of the past and one you always remember.
Chag Sameach,
Rabbi Zionce
It is important to note that while we all choose to commemorate Passover in our own fashion, it is a Biblical injunction not to have any chametz (leaven) in our possession or under our ownership. I will be disposing of our community chametz in the traditional halachic manner. If you wish to participate in this sale please detach or photocopy and fill out the form below. There is no charge, but a donation to the synagogue is appropriate.

SPONSORS NEEDED
One
of the pleasures of Shabbat services is the social hour that follows. We sit down to enjoy
a snack or meal, and in this relaxed, congenial atmosphere spend some quality time getting
to know one another better. We should all take a turn or two sponsoring a Friday night
Oneg Shabbat or a Saturday Kiddush Luncheon the quality of which has made us justly
famous! Why not celebrate a birthday or anniversary or simply honor one or more of
your hard-working co-congregants by contributing to the family feeling of Beth Tikvah?
With a $100 contribution, you can sponsor an Oneg Shabbat; a Kiddush luncheon can be
sponsored for $180. You can also co-sponsor with others or simply to make a contribution
to the Kiddush Fund. Call Arleen at 455-8811 to pick your date.
